AREAS AFFECTED: Municipality of Skagway; Haines Borough and Klukwan; Glacier Bay; Eastern Chichagof Island; City and Borough of Sitka; Admiralty Island; Petersburg Borough
DESCRIPTION: ...HIT OR MISS SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY... .Snow showers from the Gulf of Alaska will continue through Friday morning at least. Additional snowfall accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected through Friday, with some locally higher amounts possible. Snowfall accumulations will be widely variable across the area due to the hit or miss nature of the showers. Rates as high as 1 inch per hour and visibilities down to 1/2 mile or less will be possible within any heavier showers that repeatedly move over the same location. Another band of snow showers moving through during the latter half of Friday will bring 1 to 3 inches of new snow across the area. A stronger system will arrive late Friday night into Saturday. * WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch. * WHERE...Skagway, Haines, Gustavus, Hoonah, Tenakee Springs, Sitka, Angoon, and Petersburg. * WHEN...Until 4 AM AKDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snow showers are expected to slowly diminish into Friday. Snow amounts could be highly variable with the higher amounts near the outer coast and near higher terrain.

Drizzle is precipitation in the form of water droplets which are
smaller than raindrops.
Drizzle is characterized by fine, gently falling droplets and typically does not
impact human habitation in a negative way. The exception to this is freezing drizzle,
a condition where drizzle freezes immediately upon reaching earth's surface.
Freezing drizzle is still less dangerous than freezing rain, but can
potentially result in hazardous road conditions.

Fog is technically a type of stratus cloud, which lies along the
ground and obscures visibility.
It is usually created when humidity in the air condenses into tiny water droplets.
Because of this, some places are more prone to foggy weather, such as regions
close to a body of water.
Fog is similar to mist; both are the appearance of water droplets suspended in
the air, but fog is the term applied to the condition when visibility is less than 1 km.
