AREAS AFFECTED: Maricopa, AZ; Pinal, AZ
DESCRIPTION: At 417 PM MST, a wall of dust was along a line extending from near Freeman to Chui-Chu to near Florence, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Near zero visibility with strong wind in excess of 50 mph. SOURCE...Trained weather spotters. IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel. This includes the following highways... AZ Interstate 10 between mile markers 174 and 204. AZ Interstate 8 between mile markers 145 and 178. AZ Route 87 between mile markers 124 and 155. Locations impacted include... Casa Grande, Coolidge, Maricopa, Arizona City, La Palma, Blackwater, Toltec, San Tan Valley, Coolidge Airport, Bapchule, Estrella Sailport, Olberg, Arizola, San Tan Mountain Park, and Randolph.
INSTRUCTION: Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, then pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.

A mammatus cloud is a cloud with a unique feature which resembles
a web of pouches hanging along the base of the cloud.
In the United States, mammatus clouds tend to form in the warmer months, commonly
in the Midwest and eastern regions.
While they usually form at the bottom of a cumulonimbis cloud, they can also form
under altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds. Mammatus clouds
warn that severe weather is close.

Precipitation can refer to many different forms of water that
may fall from clouds. Precipitation occurs after a cloud has become saturated to
the point where its water particles are more dense than the air below the cloud.
In most cases, precipitation will reach the ground, but it is not uncommon for
precipitation to evaporate before it reaches the earth's surface.
When precipitation evaporates before it contacts the ground it is called Virga.
Graupel, hail, sleet, rain, drizzle, and snow are forms of precipitation, but fog
and mist are not considered precipitation because the water vapor which
constitutes them isn't dense enough to fall to the ground.
