AREAS AFFECTED: Chelan, WA
DESCRIPTION: Moderate to periodically heavy rain will continue into Friday at the headwaters of the Stehekin River. Mild temperatures will also result in a contribution of low to mid elevation snowmelt. Flows in rivers will increase quickly and reach critical levels. * WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues for the lower Stehekin Valley. * WHERE...A portion of North Central Washington, including the following county, Chelan. * WHEN...Until 1100 PM PDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...When the Stehekin River gauge hits 19.3 feet, water breaches the river bank. At 20 feet, water inundates some properties and overtops the temporary corduroy bridge. Company Creek Road begins to flood in places at the northern end and Battalion Creek culverts are beginning to be overtopped. At 20.5 feet, water begins to damage Wood Road. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 909 PM PDT, Doppler radar and precipitation gages indicate between 2 and 4 inches of rain has fallen in the headwaters of the Stehekin River near the Cascade crest. Rapid snowmelt is also occurring and will add to the flooding. The Stehekin River at Stehekin will hover near 23 feet through Friday morning. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2.5 inches are possible for the headwaters of the Stehekin River through Friday. The Stehekin River will see additional rises Friday afternoon into Saturday and is forecast to crest between 23.5 and 24 feet overnight on Friday before it starts to recede Saturday afternoon, but will remain high into next week. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
